Stretch marks, flabby bellies and loving the skin you’re in

When was the last time you loved yourself? I mean really loved yourself, every curve, every blemish. When was the last time you looked in the mirror and did not criticize some part of your body that you alone could see?  Your ears that you think are too big, your eyes that you think are too small, the one wrinkle on your forehead or the stretch marks from bringing your children into this world.

A woman’s body is special. From puberty to menopause our bodies go through so many changes. So many improvements. Through our bodies we are able to nurture and comfort our children. Through our bodies we can show our love for our spouses and provide support for our friends.

Our bodies are symbols of positivity and strength, something that should be loved and appreciated, regardless of the shape, size or complexion. So why is there so much negativity? Why are there so many voices telling us to feel ashamed for being overweight, too skinny, too fit, too tall, too short, too dark, too pale?

Why do we choose to listen these voices and focus on the minor imperfections instead of celebrating the perfections and accepting what time, experience and  the joy of living have done to our bodies?

I came across a video by the Jubilee Project that I thought would be nice to share and hopefully would change the image we have of ourselves.
